IP telephony

IP telephony combines voice and data in a single network. The voice traffic does not significantly load the computer network. Voice packets are automatically marked as "priority."
IP telephony lowers the cost of network infrastructures and administrative support. IP telephony makes implementing new applications that can increase productivity or improve customer service, considerably easier and cost-effective.

Practical application of IP telephony

Advantages:

  • IP telephony has a lower cost by comparison to traditional telephone exchange and a separate data network. The data traffic is transmitted through the already functioning data network.
  • Voice quality is not a problem with IP telephony. With proper administration and control of the cooperative network there is free capacity, which can be isolated for voice traffic. Voice traffic does not load significantly the already existing high-speed local and long distance networks.
  • Lower company expanses for local and long distance calls within the company network.
  • Integrated data and voice network requires less cables and communication hardware.
